Awal tahun merupakan saatnya bagi Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science (AMPAS) untuk menghelat ajang penghargaan perfilman paling bergengsi di dunia. Ya, apalagi kalau bukan Academy Awards atau yang kerap disebut sebagai Oscar. Pada Selasa (24/1) malam waktu Indonesia, AMPAS telah merilis daftar lengkap nominasi ajang Piala Oscar 2023 atau Academy Awards ke-95.
Dalam pengumuman yang dipandu oleh Riz Ahmed dan Allison Williams, terdapat dua film yang meraih nominasi terbanyak, yakni Everything Everywhere All At Once dengan 11 nominasi dan All Quiet on the Western Front dengan 9 nominasi. Keduanya bahkan sama-sama masuk ke dalam kandidat Best Picture –nominasi yang paling utama dan bergengsi– dan Best Original Score.
Uniknya lagi, Everything Everywhere All At Once berkisah tentang imigran Tiongkok, sementara itu All Quiet on the Western Front merupakan film Jerman. Sejarah Parasite sebagai Best Picture Oscar (2020) yang membuktikan bahwa Oscar bukan cuma punya film-film konvensional Hollywood yang penuh dengan aktor, sineas, dan isu Anglo-Saxon mungkin akan berulang lagi.
Tentunya, banyak orang yang penasaran dengan daftar nominasi ajang bergengsi yang bakal digelar di Dolby Theatre Los Angeles, Amerika Serikat, 12 Maret 2023 ini. Apalagi, pada tahun sebelumnya, perhelatan ini cukup menyita perhatian, bukan hanya karena prestasi, tetapi juga kontroversi.
